Filming begins in Bronx retrospective
Filming has begun for ESPN’s 8-part miniseries, “The Bronx is Burning.” The series, based on Jonathan Mahler’s book “Ladies and Gentleman, The Bronx is Burning” examines the convergence of several major events and trends in New York City history during one year—1977.
That year, New York City news was dominated by the citywide blackouts, the “Son of Sam” serial killer, disco, a close mayoral race between Ed Koch and Mario Cuomo, and the World Series heroics of Reggie Jackson, whowas often the target of manager Billy Martin’s wrath.
John Turturro plays Billy Martin, while Oliver Platt plays Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and Daniel Sunjata plays Reggie Jackson.
The series is expected to begin airing next summer
