Community Theatre Engagement offers FREE Theatre Workshops for parents at Wings Academy, 1122 East 180th Street, 10 am to Noon every Saturday. Learn acting and performing techniques.
West Bronx Recreation Center (1527 Jessup Ave., 718 543 8672): The center is open FREE to children when there is no school! A variety of activities are offered. Senior Walking Group meets at the Rec Center every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Senior Bingo begins Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. Bring the kids to the Highbridge Community Halloween Party Saturday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Recreation Center. Everyone is invited. Costume contest and lots of prizes.
Local Firefighters are sponsoring a free Thanksgiving Dinner for all of the seniors in the community Sunday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Sacred Heart School. Anyone over 60 is invited.

Heat season has started in New York City. Between 6 am and 10 pm, inside temperatures must be 68 degrees if the temperature outside falls below 55 degrees. Between 10 pm and 6 am, inside temperatures must be at least 55 degrees if the temperature outside falls below 40 degrees. Call the city’s 311 information line to report any heat problems.
Food Stamp Information: Lowincome families are urged to check their eligibility for food stamps at the Fordham benefits office, 2551 Bainbridge Ave. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The Citizens Advice Bureau, 2925 Grand Concourse, offers eligibility screenings for the program. Applications are also available on the Web at www.otda.state.ny.us.
