Community Board 4 will hold a public hearing on the Yankee Stadium proposal Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, 1040 Grand Concourse at 165th Street.
At Council Member Helen Diane Foster's district office at 1377 Jerome Avenue: Friends of the parks council meets Dec. 5 at 6 pm. Council of youth groups meets Monday, Dec. 12 at 6 pm. Tenant, block and neighborhood council meets Monday, Dec. 19 at 6 pm. Clergy council meets Thursday, Dec. 8 at 6 pm. Senior citizen council meets Thursday, Dec. 22 at 3 pm.

United Parents of Highbridge invites community residents to a meeting to discuss the Yankee Stadium and Bronx Terminal Market (Gateway Center) proposals. We will discuss these projects, their effects on Highbridge and what we can do about it. Thursday, Dec. 1, 6 to 8 pm at Highbridge Community Life Center, 979 Ogden Avenue.

Parent Theater Project: Bronx parents are invited to participate in a free community theater project every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Wings Academy, 1122 E. 180th St. Classes will cover performance techniques. For more information, call Kayhan Irani at (917) 363-3481.
The Bronx Culture Trolley, a replica of a 20th-century trolley, transports visitors on the first Wednesday of every month (except January), to Bronx hot spots, including The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Pregones Latino Theatre, and the Blue Ox Bar and the Downtown Bronx Bar and Cafe. A reception is held at the Hostos Art Gallery, 450 Grand Concourse (at 149th St.) at 5 p.m., followed by three trolley departures at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. New attractions are added monthly. Trolley ride and all events are free.
Riders can get on and off at any scheduled stop and spend as much time as they wish at any or all of the featured venues. Venues and activities vary each month. The Valentine-Varian House/Museum of Bronx History at 3266 Bainbridge Ave. at E. 208th St. presents two exhibits celebrating the history and heritage of Bronx African-Americans: "The Bronx African-American Experience" and "Morrisania Memories" from Oct. 20 through April 16. The Bronx Museum of the Arts at 1040 Grand Concourse (at 165th St.) Exhibit continues: "Irreducible: Contemporary Short Form Video" through Feb. 26. This exhibition presents two dozen videos by artists from North and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia that are structured around a particular situation, event or performance. College Scholarships: The Greatest Generation Scholarship program is now accepting applications from high school seniors. The fund provides assistance to six students who are involved in community service, communicate well, attend high school regularly, and have a financial need. Free School Meals: The city Department of Education encourages parents to submit school meal applications for their children to take advantage of free and reduced-price meals. The deadline to submit forms has been extended until Dec. 23. Forms are available at your child's school or on-line at www.opt-osfns.org.
New Postal Hours: As of this month, several Bronx post offices are now open until 7 p.m. on weekdays and 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Local offices include the Fordham branch, 465 E. 188th St., and the Jerome Station at 2549 Jerome Ave. |
