It's the Horizon's Summer Essay Contest!

The Horizon has GREAT PRIZES for kids aged 8 to 18 who submit essays to this first annual essay contest! Read the rules below carefully and then get your pen out or turn on your computer and start writing!

The contest is open to all youth aged 8 to 18 who reside in the Highbridge, Concourse or Hunt's Point neighborhoods.

There are three age groups for the contest: 8 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18. All essays must be received by July 15 to the Highbridge Horizon office at: 979 Ogden Avenue, Bronx, New York 10452. You can mail it or drop it off. Make sure you write HORIZON ESSAY CONTEST on the envelope and write your name, age, address and telephone number on your essay!

For age 8 to 10, the subject of your essay should be "The importance of family." All other essay writers, pick one of these themes: The importance of family; Why school is important; How and why to get involved in the community; Your own topic.

Essays will be judged for clarity and style. Grammar, punctuation and spelling count! You can type or hand-write your essay. Call the Horizon on (718) 681-1549 for more information!
