On January 30, students from the Get and Give Afterschool Program at 1248 Nelson Avenue showed off their style for classmates,counselors, and parents at the Sacred Heart Auditorium.

Here, they report about their experiences, and marvel at one another’s performances:

Bridget Adarkwa
The weeks of preparing for the Fashion show were full of vigorous activities. The activities included everyone that makes up the after-school. Everyday, for at least an hour, everyone played a part in the constant routine of practice. Eventually, on the day of the show, everyone showed their stuff and looked their best. You can tell that this community has lots of fashion sense!

Renee Marin
I liked the fashion show because I modeled. Everyone looked pretty. So did Tia and Briana, they did great. In the fashion show, a lot of people were shy. And they were also nervous. I kept telling them they would do great. I was very nervous, but happy. I really enjoyed the fashion show.

Malik Cabness
I liked it because I thought it would be fun to go and walk in front of people. Also, I like when we were dancing. It was like we were in a concert. We practiced for about 2 weeks. We thought that we were going to mess up. We didn’t. We did great. In practice, we worked real hard. We weren’t on time, but we made it. I also like when they were taking pictures. I was saying , “Hi,” everytime we got off stage.”

Tia Wheeler
My favorite part of the fashion is the modeling. For the show, I was in sports-wear and evening wear with Briana. We practiced on the stage, and it was fun. Everyone loved my dress for evening wear. For sports wear, I had a tennis outfit, Briana had a basketball outfit with a basketball. Also, a lot of parents were watching. I felt a little nervous, but it all turned out good. Briana and I did very good.

Oral
In the fashion show, the students practiced a lot. I think some of them must be really nervous. I didn’t do it because I am really shy when I am around a lot of people. The fashion show was good, because some people liked to show off. And most of them wanted to show their clothes off. I think the Fashion Show was nice.

Briana Nathaniel
The fashion show was great. I liked the part when Tia and I modeled together. I also loved what Renee did. The crowd was all cheering for both of us, but I followed my heart and did it. I modeled evening wear, and sports wear. I had a great time.

Jose Estevez
The fashion show was great. It was great because I had my friends come out with me to show people what we got. Me and my friend came out with different clothes and a lot of people liked the clothes we came out with. Also, my friends danced, and the dance was pretty cool. We were shy at the Fashion Show, because there was a lot of people. My friend Jose was the DJ and he did a great, great job. Ms. Heather was making us be quiet, because we were loud, but Ms. Heather did a great job! Everyone did a great job and the little people did a great job too. Everyone was screaming. When me and my friend did the fashion show, everyone was saying, ‘Those kids look great,’ and we were happy. Then my mom came and picked me up and the fashion show was finished. Everyone left home.

Antavia Mitchell
The fashion show was fun. There was a step, it was great. There was a lot of people there, and a lot of good models. There was dance. It was great. The best part was at the end, when we went out and saw how much people liked it and to see the crowd.

What I liked best about the fashion show is how everyone was dressed up. Even though practice was crazy, we still made it through. I loved the different poses everyone used. All the extras in the outfits was amazing. It was so perfect!

I think the fashion show was very good. The 1-3 and 4-8 did a very good job. Backstage was very messy. We still managed to change quickly before we went on. The intermissions were very entertaining. I felt nervous when I made my introduction and the modeling, but luckily I managed to keep up.

I liked the fashion show because I was nervous and I did great. Also, my mom was there when I got on stage. I realized it was easy. My mom and my brother took pictures. When I got home, people were in my house and it was my family. My mom connected the camera to the tv, and I saw the video that my mom took at the fashion show. It was a little embarrassing.

Yesterday, there was a fashion show. The 4th through 8th participated and the 1st through 3rd too. There was music and dancing. I had fun. Some of us messed up, but it was okay.

Aaron Flores
The fashion show was cool, but it was kinda long. My favorite part was the dances. Me and Richard did not really do anything except the curtains. Ms. M did introduce us. I was the stage manager. It was a lot of preparation for only 40 minutes, but it was fun.

The fashion show was so good. I saw talented girls and boys. I saw dancing and they had a DJ and I heard a lot of music. The fashion show was so good, I think they got to do it again.

The fashion show was beautiful.. We had so much fun. We practiced for step first, then we practiced the fashion show. We modeled. We had so much fun. Before the fashion show began, we danced and sang. We basically had fun.

Jaelen Johnson
Yesterday was the fashion show. We had: 1) Daywear. 2)Evening wear. 3)Sportswear. The best thing I liked was the dance, with Isiah’s dance, because he made us look good on stage. And it is all thanks to Isiah, the best dancer ever.

Richard Ware, Jr
I wasn’t in the fashion show, but I got to be the curtain boy. Every few minutes, I had to open and close the curtains. It was fun! Aaron had helped me with the curtains. We got to see our parents and/or family. I had got to see all the 1st-3rd, and 4th-7th grade. They all had suits, and pajamas, and jeans, and shirts.

After homework time was over, people were starting the fashion show. I saw people looking for partners for the fashion show. Then people were walking and showing their clothes. The little kids were in the fashion show as well.

During the fashion show, I saw people practice. I noticed that during the show, people felt scared and nervous. I didn’t model because I was too shy. Everything looked good.

The fashion show was really funny. It was the best show in the world. It had good models. They knew what to do on the stage. The 1 through 3 graders was the cutest. The 4 through 8 graders had nice clothes. The parents had a good time in the fashion show.

Lorenzo Kelly
What I liked about the fashion show is they did their best. The people in the dance did their thing. I also liked when they practiced. It was very cool to see them practice. It was like I was seeing super models. I was happy for all of them. They did good.

They practiced a lot. They took it seriously, and if they messed up, they wouldn’t give up. They worked together. They looked nice. That’s what I like about the Fashion Show. I didn’t model but I starred and it was awesome. We did great.

What I liked about the fashion show was all of the great clothing everyone wore. Some outfits were kinda weird, but everyone did their thing. Also, I had a lot of fun.

Taliyah Salisbury
Even though I wasn’t there, I still know that they did a good job. I think that everyone didn’t forget their position and aced the fashion show. I’d hope everybody had a good time.

The fashion show was so great. My favorite part was when we were doing the Western River dance and we tried very hard to do this, so I think our parents were happy when we did this dance.

The fashion show was great. I modeled in daywear clothing. I performed with the step team. It was cool to dance on stage. The other kids modeled in evening wear. Then Isiah did the dance he taught the boys. The parents loved the fashion show.

In the fashion show, kids had a lot of talent and their clothes were nice. They were working so hard that they did a nice job. They were excellent. They were modeling good. They had fun doing it. The parents were happy.

The fashion show was cool because we modeled with our friend. Even if it was a little embarrassing. It was hard trying to change backstage. I know my outfit’s cute. The show was really a fundraiser for the Get and Give program.
