Students from the Highbridge Community Life Center recently had the opportunity to spend a day learning about photography in upstate New York. On Wednesday, April 4th, children viewed both college and professional level work and then used skills learned about framing, color and subject in their own photographs.
Students who participated in the Goshen program were taught how to use Polaroid and 35 millimeter cameras and took a diverse grouping of photographs. Goshen’s large property and numerous buildings gave students ample opportunity to photograph a wide range of subjects. Students chose to photograph everything from Goshen’s landscape to other students.
As part of Highbridge’s Get and Give Program, students have been given the opportunity to study journalism through reporting and writing centered on Highbridge life. Photography lessons supplement the work students have been doing at the center focusing on basic journalistic skills and interviews with subjects from in and around the community.
Photography at Goshen continued with earlier work students had done at Highbridge, and allowed them to explore what photography means to their lives. Students will continue with the program through the coming weeks. Future lessons will include a group review of each student’s work and a possible art show.
