By
Yolanda Romero Over 300 Highbridge residents joined in the grand opening festivities at the Woodycrest Center for Human Development. Located at 153 West 165 Street, the program’s motto is “Striving For Human Excellence.” They’ve been working out of C.E.S. 126 for the last 5 years. Offering tutorials for children in first to sixth grade. They’ve helped in the Summer Youth Employment Program; they offer school violence prevention workshops as well as a host of recreational activities all with parental involvement. Pedro, a school aide from 126 is pleased with the work the Woodycrest Center has done over the years. “They have been running a great program out of the school and now with the new space they’ll be more opportunities for our community’s youth and of course their parents.” In attendance, were the center’s executive director, Ade A. Rasul, Program coordinator Janet Williams, Administrative Assistant/Parent Coordinator Maria Simmons, along with invited guest from all sectors of the community; Commanding Officer James O’Neil of the 44th Precinct, Assemblywoman Aurelia Greene, Community Affair Officer Carmen Diaz, Ms. Simmons-Oliver from Congressman Serrano’s office and many others.
