Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr. announced an initiative that will help bolster not only the borough’s economy, but its spirit as well.

In an effort to attract more tourists, the Borough President unveiled the Bronx Tourism and Venture fund. The fund will provide $500,000 to various arts and cultural programs in the South Bronx and Empowerment Zone.

Sites will include the Bronx Museum of the Arts, and The Point “Arts and culture are the underlying engines that fuel this city,” Mr. Carrión said. “There’s a good potential in the South Bronx and the Empowerment Zones to build on what’s already there.”

Mr. Carrión also announced the new Bronx Trolley. Operated by the parks Department, the trolley offers free tours of the borough on the weekends. Stops include the Bronx Zoo, the New York Botanical Garden and Poe Cottage.

With both programs showcasing the Bronx’s achievements, the borough president urged all Bronxites to be a part of the resurgence, while Bill Aguado of the Bronx Council on the Arts said, “The Bronx is no longer a secret. We are a destination.”
