Highbridge loses a friend Eufemia Wheeler, a beloved coworker at Highbridge Community Life Center died suddenly, March 7, not far from the staff and students that she loved and cared for over the past 16 years. Eufemia, or Eufie as she was affectionately called, was a source of strength and friendship to many. She knew all the forms necessary for students to get their G.E.D., be certified as a nurse aide, become a citizen, or simply to enroll in a Highbridge program. She made the time to encourage students to work hard and to listen to all of our complaints and concerns. She prayed with all of us and attended wakes and funerals of all our relatives. She celebrated all agency and community events. She was the mainstay of the Education Department, organizing not only its records, testing schedules and intake process, but the lives of its students and staff members as well. You have seen the department increase, numerous directors come and go, and remain one of the central organizing forces, and more importantly, its heart." On Tuesday, March 12, Eufemia was laid to rest. We wish her everlasting peace. Eufemia, is survived by her husband, Ken, and, daughter, Fidelia. |
